High quality Pilates

Trevor Blount has been at the forefront of developing modern Pilates for more that 25 years. What makes him and his team exceptional – and different from other Pilates teachers – is their complete understanding of how to use Pilates in a way that is sympathetic to each individual’s anatomical structure. This comes from Trevor’s own daily practise, combined with his experience of teaching a huge range of people with widely different needs.

The whole body

The sessions are one-and-a-half-hours long, as opposed to the one-hour sessions at most studios. An hour would not give Trevor the time that he requires to work thoroughly through the entire body and to teach what he calls the “internal-mechanism” of Pilates exercises.

The secret ingredient

The “internal- mechanism” is about learning how to use our bodies, to sense what is happening to them, rather than imposing on them what we think they should be doing – which we all tend to do.

Real and lasting power

The “internal- mechanism” is what gives TrevorBlountPilates real and lasting power: the power to experience and inhabit our bodies in a true and natural way. By changing existing movement patterns, and by improving the quality of our movement, we create more space inside our bodies, enabling us to feel more comfortable with our bodies and to make positive changes to our postures.

The best format for sessions

Trevor says, “It is not possible to teach high-quality Pilates in group sessions, nor do I believe that one-to-one sessions are the best means: in one-to-one teaching, clients often become so reliant on the teacher for basic needs that they never truly learn to work on their internal-mechanisms, or achieve an advanced awareness of their bodies, which is the most interesting and beneficial aspect of Pilates”.

The best environment

To help our clients achieve this advanced awareness in practising Pilates, we work with each person individually. We give them the time and space to learn about their bodies without the distraction of “over-teaching”. We firmly believe that this is the best environment in which to be taught – and to learn – Pilates.
